The Key of Solomon grimoire has a variety of pentacle symbols. Along with other magical implements, pentacles are employed in the Neopagan magical faith known as Wicca. Pentacles represent the traditional element earth in both Wicca and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Pentacles prominently use a pentagram in their design in the 1909 Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck (whose pentacles were developed by Arthur Edward Waite), in later tarot cards based on it, and in Wicca. This type of pentacle is made of a disk that can be utilized as either an altar or as a standalone sacred area.
The 1909 Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck was the first deck made available that had a real pentacle suit. Later tarot decks with a pentacles-themed suit were made as a result of the inspiration provided by that particular deck. The pentacles of the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck were created by Arthur Edward Waite as golden disks with a pentagram on them. The pentacles from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck served as the inspiration for the Wiccan pentacle, which is a disk covered in the pentagram symbol.
A pentagram is the actual “star” symbol while a pentacle is that symbol within a circle or on a disk.
