Fragrance: Eucalyptus Vanilla

The Japanese Lucky Cat is more traditionally known as Maneki Neko which translated means the beckoning cat. According to ancient Japanese folklore, a good luck charm for good fortune in business and happiness.

Although there are many stories surrounding the true origin of the Lucky Cat, one of the most popular tales of all is the legend of the Gotokuji Temple. This story is about the local monk who looked after Gotokuji Temple in Tokyo who, despite his poverty, would share his food with his cat. According to temple historians, while hunting with falcons, the regional ruler was saved from a lightning bolt when the cat (named Tama) beckoned him into Gotokuji.

Grateful to the cat for saving his life, the ruler made it a patron of the temple where it has been venerated in its very own shrine ever since.

The Cat’s raised paw is said to invite in customers and money while also warding off evil spirits; other sources say if you stroke a Lucky Cats forehead three times it will bring you luck and prosperity.  Other common names include Lucky Cat, Money Cat, Waving Cat, Beckoning Cat and Welcoming Cat.
