A three-day introduction to the basic concepts which underlie the theory and practice of traditional Ayurvedic medicine, including a beginning overview of Samhya philosophy, definitions of health, Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology, causes and symptoms of imbalances, and the stages of development of disease. Instruction in practical skills of assessment of prakriti and vikrti, including observation, questioning, and pulse and tongue diagnosis. A beginning understanding of three of the five basic healing modalities of the Ayurvedic medicine toolkit: lifestyle (including dietary habits), therapeutic Yoga, and panchakarma. Students will be assigned relevant written project work each evening of the training in order to ensure correct understanding and retention of information.

Dr. Sarasvati Buhrman
was trained and qualified to practice Ayurvedic medicine with the late Pranacharya Dr. R.P. Trivedi, Professor of Ayurvedic Medicine at Benares Hindu University. She has maintained an Ayurvedic medicine and Yoga Therapy practice in Boulder, Co. since 1987, and co-founded the Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga and Ayurveda in 1990, a nonprofit educational institution for training Yoga therapists, Yoga teachers, and Ayurvedic practitioners. She has practiced yoga since 1973, and has studied extensively with her spiritual teacher, Baba Hari Dass, since 1976. Sarasvatiji is a yogic monastic in the Vairagi Order of North India, and is a member of the World Council of Yoga. She is a board member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.
