Discover Yourself and Gain Deeper Insights with Tarot Readings
Today, the often misunderstood subject of tarot has evolved into a popular issue with primetime attention. Witnessing a Tarot reader pull cards from a deck of 78 to offer insight on issues ranging from relationships to careers to wellbeing is not uncommon. Doesn’t this deck of cards seem to contain all the answers? The truth is that we have the answers, not the cards.
Everyone can explore and learn about tarot because it is widely available. By all means, it is entertaining to see a glitzy reader shuffle cards and make predictions. Even better, we can purchase our own pack and read with the aid of Tarot books. And while many people would rather “be on the safe side” and consult an experienced reader, some really start learning on their own or with the assistance of a mentor so that they can predict the future on their own. While many of us are afraid of the future, some of us do desire awareness of it and a sense of control over it.
Through a Tarot reading, much than just the future is clarified. Tarot cards may actually help us understand the past and the present, as well as our daily difficulties, issues, and situations. They can even transport us to a world that exists beyond of space and time. Many have seen firsthand how the Tarot can lead us to a deep understanding of ourselves.
What Tarot Cards Represent
The most common use of tarot is for divination. Most people think of divination as a way to foretell the future. I would view divination simply as a technique of exposing oneself to the divine, even if that is one of the most common reasons individuals approach a Tarot reader or become interested in learning Tarot, astrology, and other divinatory arts.
Tarot cards represent archetypal themes of our lives – both positive and negative – that can help us make sense of life’s complexities. The Major Arcana in particular reveals deeper insights into our psyche than any other card deck. It speaks of universal life stages that each one of us goes through: from birth to death, as well as lessons we must all learn on the way, such as going through transformative experiences.
Many believe that by taking time to interpret one’s own cards, it can lead to greater self-awareness, paving the way for meaningful changes in our lives. Whether you pick up a Rider-Waite or Thoth deck for inspiration or take part in an online guided reading session with a professional reader, you can use these powerful tools for magical transformations in your life journey.
One has undoubtedly heard of the old Greek proverb “Gnothi Sauton,” which means “know thyself.”
When organized religions began to form thousands of years ago, the ancients knew everyone has a divine spark connecting them to the One, the all-knowing, all-encompassing universal soul. This means that the divine is not something separate from us; rather, we are a perfect picture of the divine because all that is above is also below.
Understanding Yourself by Using Tarot
The Tarot actually serves as a mirror into which we may view both ourselves and everything else, giving us a brief look into the larger scheme of things. The card’s design actually resembles a cosmic pattern. Contrary to popular belief, this is also what I would argue astrology accomplishes—it helps us understand how the patterns of the stars and our lives relate to one another. In my opinion, the planets are not physically directing our lives or exerting their “impact” on us. They only give us the symbols and indications we need to learn more about the world inside. The cosmic pattern can appear in a variety of places, including the stars, Tarot cards, playing cards, a bowl of water or a teacup, the roll of dice, or the toss of coins, according to learned experts. These are merely mirrors for us to gaze into and observe our reflection. We would be one step closer to understanding who we truly are if we could simply recognize the truth in this reflection. Once we do, we will understand “everything that is.”
Our higher self—our astral, soul (ar), and divine selves—as well as our lower self—our physical, mental, and emotional selves—combine to make up who we truly are. But, the majority of us are constrained to our material worlds by a “veil” that appears to divide our higher self from our lower self. We spend our daily lives in the comfort of ignorance while this veil is covering us, forgetting who we really are. By acting according to our lower selves, we take care of our basic needs for pleasure, safety, and survival while ignoring the invitation to know reality. If we live in ignorance of the Truth, unaware that we are in fact the One, isn’t this a little like the “Matrix”—a realm of banal existence where we are trapped?
Even so, we all occasionally communicate with our higher selves. As we learn lessons over many lifetimes and move forward through our evolutionary cycles, our veil gets thinner and thinner. This makes us more intuitive and responsive. We all experience some degree of psychic ability due to this at some point in our life. I’m confident that the most of us have experienced situations where inner guidance has helped us solve a problem that defies all logic, when a dream has come true in real life, or when we have just had an eerie sensation that something or someone is headed our way and it is. When the veil has momentarily parted, we can see through to the realm where everything is actually possible and catch a peek of the other side. The portion of us that actually “knows” could be in touch with our higher selves at that time. not “believes,” but rather “knows.”
Using Tarot for Spiritual Connection
Everyone of us have the ability to actively and consciously learn to see beyond the veil and communicate with our higher selves in order to reconnect with the parts of ourselves that our everyday lives have made us forget. This does not imply that we abandon our work or other obligations in this life. This just means that as we become more aware of and in tune with nature’s divine powers, we get closer to God, who, even though he seems far away, is actually inside each of us. We advance down the path one step at a time, and when the veil is completely lifted, that is ultimately when we will all understand what it truly means to “Be” with perfect love and perfect faith. Then, empowered by this kind light, we have the option to start over. Knowing the truth will enable us to live our lives and change the lives of many others with greater responsibility, power, love, and compassion for all beings both in this life and beyond.
At the end of the day, tarot cards are more than just symbols on a page. They represent ancient teachings about human experience and feelings reflecting our highest aspirations and darkest fears. Understanding them allows us to navigate our own lives more consciously – creating more joy, contentment and fulfillment along the way.
